“Look at that sunset, Truman. It’s perfect. That’s the big guy. Quite a paintbrush he’s got.”

This quote from The Truman Show perfectly describes the quaint town of Seaside on Florida’s Emerald Coast, where this unique movie was filmed.

If you have never seen The Truman Show – or even if you have – here is a quick recap. This film is about the life of an insurance salesman named Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey), who was adopted by a television network when he was a baby. He lives an ordinary life with an ordinary wife in a not-so-ordinary place. Seaside provides the ideal setting for the fictitious, picturesque island of Seahaven. Spoiler alert: Truman finds out his entire life is being filmed, that the world is watching his every move, and he attempts to escape. Don’t worry, we won’t actually give the ending away. If you want to know the complete story and how it ends, you will have to watch the movie.

One of the best parts of this movie is its setting. Though Seahaven is actually an enormous movie studio where The Truman Show takes place, Seaside itself is a real place. Yes, this heaven on earth really does exist, and it is truly worth a visit!

Located on the most pristine stretch of coastline in all of Florida (and maybe even the world), Seaside embodies a true paradise. Those white picket fences, traditional wood-framed beach cottages, red-brick roads, and stunning beach views that you see in the movie are what make Seaside so unique and charming.

For avid movie fans and beach lovers, it is time to put The Truman Show town on your vacation bucket list. Not only is this coastal town the idyllic summer getaway, its pedestrian-centric community boasts a lively town center with cute shops, dining locales, wine outlets, and art galleries. Visitors can check out The Truman House on Natchez Street, Modica Market, and the iconic post office, as seen in the movie. Of course, there have been some changes from the time Truman walked these beautiful streets every day. Since the film aired, the town has welcomed the Seaside Tower, new shops and boutiques, and even the beloved gourmet food truck row.

However, one thing about Seaside remains the same – its undeniable charm. If you take a stroll through town and enjoy a walk on the beach, you will see what we mean.

Ready to start planning a trip to The Truman Show town? Book your stay with Ocean Reef Resorts for a movie-like experience. After visiting Seaside, you will love watching The Truman Show all over again. It is fun to watch film and point out the sites that you have seen in person, as well as see how the town has changed over the years. You might also want to check out the other movies that have been filmed along the Emerald Coast.

“Seahaven is the way the world should be.” Change the word “Seahaven” to “Seaside” and this quote could not be any more accurate. Enjoy your visit!
