April 10, 2008

Join us for our 25th Anniversary Benefit
Featuring Amy Sedaris, star of Strangers with Candy and many HI-larious
David Letterman appearances — AND author of her hostess how-to book,
I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence.

Thursday April 10th
6:30 to 10:30pm
The Chicago Cultural Center - 78 E. Washington St.
$100 (c’mon, it’s for charity)
Call 773-761-4477 for tickets or purchase online.

It’s our 25th Anniversary, so we’re celebrating in style! Join Amy for a live demonstration on partying the “Amy Way.” Ask her your most intimate hospitality questions. Buy her book—she’ll sign it! Drinking, dining and glorious silent auction are, of course, included. Make sure your pantyhose are on straight, please.

Amy Sedaris has appeared often on screen, both large and small, and lives in Manhattan. She’s co-creator, with Stephen Colbert and Paul Dinello, of Comedy Central’s hit show Strangers with Candy, and half of the Obie-winning “Talent Family” playwright team (with her brother, David). Amy’s Lifeline Theatre connections include Second City touring with Lifeline ensemble member John Hildreth. Lifeline artistic director Dorothy Milne owes Amy thanks for inviting her to write and perform a piece for Help, Daddy, directed by Mick Napier at the (old) Annoyance Theatre in 1992, which was Dorothy’s initiation into the solo performance arena, and resulted in her creation of the writing/performing collective, Sweat Girls.

The evening also includes a sword fight from The Mark of Zorro, cocktail piano by George Howe, food and drink by Conn’s Catering and a silent auction. Confirmed auction items include airline tickets, plus a Frank Gehry 3-Fish drop pendant, exclusively from Tiffany & Co.

THEATER, TV, DVD & BLU-RAY REVIEWS

  • Near Dark

CHICAGO – It’s funny the way that the Blu-Ray market has developed in that success of a new title can often bring an old one to the HD format more quickly than it otherwise would get there. In the case of the great “Near Dark,” it’s the success of two films, one that shares a theme (“The Twilight Saga: New Moon”) and one that shares director Kathryn Bigelow (“The Hurt Locker”). Whatever the reason, don’t fail to include arguably the best vampire movie ever made in your collection.

  • Lost

CHICAGO – The sixth and final season of the J.J. Abrams hit television series “Lost” will premiere with a special all-night event on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2009. The recap special will start at 7pm CST followed by the highly anticipated sixth season two-hour premiere at 8pm CST on ABC.
