Two HollywoodChicago.com staff writers are involved with the Chicago production of “Saving Snowball”. The press release is below.

Chicago, IL (January 25 – February 15, 2008): In the sleepy Midwest town of Grossman Falls, Illinois, the annual Snowball dance has long been a rite of passage. Now the school is threatening to cancel the dance citing filthy music and even filthier dancing. Students must now fight for their right to hold each other close and walk in slow, awkward circles. A local news crew captures the thrilling story from beginning to end in a multi-media experience called SAVING SNOWBALL. SAVING SNOWBALL performs Fridays at 10pm, January 25 – February 15, 2008 at Gorilla Tango Theatre, 1919 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, IL 60647. Tickets are $10 and available at www.gorillatango.com or by calling 773-598-4549. Rated R.

Mixing the real life stories and people the writers knew from high school with a fantastical story, SAVING SNOWBALL was conceived while the performers were students at the Second City Training Center. Despite different backgrounds and growing up in different parts of the country, director Kurt Lewis observed that all American high school students have the same experience at their school dances: their date is crying in the bathroom.

Compiling some of the funniest people working in Chicago, the cast wrote a show that plays like an absurdist John Hughes film. They included their fondest memories of not just the popular girl, but the girl that wants to be popular. Not just the self-proclaimed “cool sub,” but the post traumatic disorder suffering janitor. And not just abstinence pushing PTA mother, but the creepy kid, Dwayne.

SAVING SNOWBALL was written by and features: Jenni Cheers, Heather Durham, Alaina Hoffman, Dan Kennedy, Dustin Levell, Kurt Lewis, Evan O’Donnell, and Jason VonGerichten. It is directed by Kurt Lewis.
