Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, voted internationally by Film Comment as the best filmmaker of the ’90s, is making his first film in six years and outside of Iran — also a first.

“The Certified Copy” stars Juliet Binoche, says Variety.

In “Certified Copy,” Binoche will play a French art gallery owner who becomes entangled romantically with an older novelist, played by French thesp Sami Frey, as they travel around the Chianti countryside.

Pic is also said to explore the differences between original masterpiece artworks and their copies.

Italian producer Angelo Barbagallo’s Bibi Films will produce.

One of Kiarostami’s most vocal American supporters is local film critic Jonathan Rosenbaum.
