CHICAGO — Grafitti is proud to present its 2nd production of a full-length performance. FUACATA! featuring Wendy Mateo and Lorena Diaz opens Friday, February 1st at The Playground Theater and runs through March 7th in the usual Grafitti time slot of 10 p.m. Reservations can be made at 773-871-3793 or www.the-playground.com. Tickets are $10. The Playground Theater is located at 3209 North Halsted.
FUACATA! stars Lorena Diaz and Wendy Mateo. Lorena and Wendy moved to Chicago 3 years ago from South Florida after completing an acting conservatory together. Fuacata is a virtual tour of the many urban characters that Mateo and Diaz have come across in New York, Miami, and Chicago and they do it with a flair for their culture. Directed by Katie Rich and choreographed by Irene Marquette, Fuacata! previewed at Grafitti in October and November of 2007, Matt Barbera producer of Grafitti and Playground president says this of the show, “Fuacata! brilliantly displays the vulnerability and depth of its characters, it’s something sketch performers try to achieve and audiences love to watch.” Fuacata! also performed for The Playground’s 2nd Annual Industry Showcase attended by industry execs who work with HBO, Comedy Central, and The Montreal Comedy Festival. Opening acts include Paul Thomas (2/1), Ben Seeder (2/8), Nick Vatterot (2/15), Team Submarine (2/22), The Money Kids (2/29), and PennyBear (3/7). Wendy Mateo is a cast member of the Second City Educational Touring Company and Lori Diaz won the Carbonell award for best actress in Miami.
Grafitti is a year-round venue committed to giving Chicago’s best comedic actors an opportunity to develop and to showcase their work. Grafitti began its open run at The Playground Theater in March of 2006 and has showcased over 125 sketch comedy groups. Performances at Grafitti have included, KevINda, Michael Lehrer, Blaire, Keaton & Lewis, and Heavyweight.
