A few weeks back, myself and the great Dustin offered our top five predicted Oscar snubs. Here are the results…

Dustin — All five correct

Predicted snubs for ‘I Am Legend,’ (no visual effects nod?), ‘The Darjeeling Limited’ (a crime, a great film), Zodiac (the curse of the early release), ‘300’ (for visual effects, and I quote Dustin here…”And you know what? The Academy will be one of you haters, I’m sure of it. TRANSFORMERS, THE GOLDEN COMPASS, and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD’S END will get the nominations this year.” Exactly right.) and Judd Apatow (don’t worry Juddster, the money you made for 100 generations of Apatows is fine recognition).

Hank — Three out of Five

WRONG: No Early Year Performances noms (Julie Christie got a nod for ‘Away From Her’ released in May), WRONG: ‘Sicko’ will not get a nom (sure enough it did), Best Screenplay for ‘Once’ (it got a song nom), ‘The Simpsons Movie’ (snubbed as predicted in the Best Animated Feature in favor of ‘Surf’s Up?’) and finally Best Supporting Actress nom for Jenny Garner from ‘Juno’ (another crime, considering Cate Blanchett was nominated in Supporting AND Best Actress).

Overall a dog of a nomination year, the old farts at the Academy are as predictible as a visit to their plastic surgeons.

The Yahoo blogger is in the snubbing fray. He/She agrees with Dustin on Knocked Up/Apatow dissing, and comes along with the Hankster on Jennifer Garner.

Moore or Less

Even Michael Moore thought he didn’t have a chance, for much the same reason as I indicated. From imdb.com news…

Moore Surprised To Secure ‘Sicko’ Nomination

Michael Moore is amazed his movie Sicko has received an Academy Award nomination, because he thought he’d never be invited back after slamming U.S. President George W. Bush onstage in 2003. Moore outraged many with his controversial speech, which Oscars producers cut short, when picking up the Best Documentary award for Bowling For Columbine. But the 53-year-old was pleased to hear his film about America’s health care problems had picked up a Best Documentary Academy Award nomination on Tuesday. He says, “I’m appreciative that they allowed me back in the building (Kodak Theater). If I’m fortunate enough to stand on that stage again, I will be true to myself and very gracious and grateful for the acknowledgment, but I would start by finishing the last 10 seconds of the previous speech.” And the famously unstylish filmmaker adds, “I would thank my wardrobe designer and hair stylist.”

I wonder

I wonder if it’s because it was too niche and didn’t have wide enough awareness.
