FIXED! Board Replies, Organization, Misc.

I know this has already been discussed, but check out that Spider-Man discussion forum. Try to follow the linear progression of the conversation, checking the post times. Then just follow the straight line down the page. It’s impossible to follow unless you’ve been consistently posting in that thread for days.

While we’re on the subject (and this is in no way an immediate request for overhaul, just something to look at down the line): I personally don’t feel we need all these sub-page categories for the forum. Their purpose could easily be done with tags; at the very least, we shouldn’t have as many sub-pages. It’s just harder to navigate. Personally, I think we should follow the more traditional message board format and have the most recently updated conversation put to the top of a page.

That being said, I do love the sidebars

Adam,

Is the flow of the thread a personal preference or something you set up on the site?

I think we can consolidate some of the forums and expand as time goes on.

The current flow is the default setting.

The current flow is the default setting. I didn’t set it this way. I’m sure it can be drastically changed relatively easily. I’d just have to look into it. To be clear, how exactly would you guys want it working differently than how it is now? Then I’ll see if I can make it so.

Fixed!

Fixed! I’ve changed this across the site so it sorts “oldest first”.

It makes much more sense. It flows now from top to bottom as it’s posted. The top stuff is the oldest and the new stuff goes below the older content. You can see this here: http://www.hollywoodchicago.com/forums/new-spider-man-storyline

Users can still change this for themselves below forums, but I’ve made this change across the site as a whole.

The flow within the messages

The flow within the messages themselves looks good, but the boards need to be the opposite.

It should have the newest message up first. I have to go to the next page to see the newest messages on the general film board.

Ah hah.

The way to do it, then, is to set “newest first” across the site (so it corrects what you see on each forum topic page) and then individually set it to “oldest first” within your own settings within a particular topic.

With those two settings, it’ll display correctly under both circumstances. Make sense?

THEATER, TV, DVD & BLU-RAY REVIEWS

  • Near Dark

CHICAGO – It’s funny the way that the Blu-Ray market has developed in that success of a new title can often bring an old one to the HD format more quickly than it otherwise would get there. In the case of the great “Near Dark,” it’s the success of two films, one that shares a theme (“The Twilight Saga: New Moon”) and one that shares director Kathryn Bigelow (“The Hurt Locker”). Whatever the reason, don’t fail to include arguably the best vampire movie ever made in your collection.

  • Lost

CHICAGO – The sixth and final season of the J.J. Abrams hit television series “Lost” will premiere with a special all-night event on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2009. The recap special will start at 7pm CST followed by the highly anticipated sixth season two-hour premiere at 8pm CST on ABC.
