Ticking toward the emotional conclusion of its critically acclaimed seventh season, 24 is preparing for a new day by casting Anil Kapoor (“Slumdog Millionaire”) to star as a series regular during Season Eight. In his first American television role, Kapoor will play a Middle Eastern leader who comes to the U.S. on a peacemaking mission.

David Chase, multi-award-winning creator of “The Sopranos,” is returning to HBO to develop a miniseries about the invention of cinema and subsequent growth of the Hollywood film industry, it was announced today by Richard Plepler, co-president, HBO, and Michael Lombardo, president, Programming Group and West Coast Operations, HBO.

FOX has ordered two additional seasons of THE SIMPSONS, which will bring the longest-running series in primetime television history through its 22nd season. The 44-episode pickup ensures the series will reach an astounding 493 episodes. THE SIMPSONS airs Sundays (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
