CHICAGO – Just as the actors would be no one without their fans, HollywoodChicago.com wouldn’t exist without our loyal readers. As a way to say thanks, today we’re bringing you an opportunity to communicate with one of Hollywood’s hottest stars! It’s unlike anything you’ve experienced elsewhere!

And it’s fitting to present this experience to you with Maggie Gyllenhaal of “The Dark Knight” fame because it’s that same blockbuster film on which HollywoodChicago.com’s local coverage gained widespread awareness a couple years ago.

Maggie Gyllenhaal, who has recently been nominated for an Oscar in the best supporting actress category for “Crazy Heart” with Jeff Bridges, will be on “LIVE! with Regis and Kelly” early this Friday morning on ABC. Maggie will be having a conversation about her latest role and life as it is today. If you could, what would you ask her?

Maggie Gyllenhaal has starred in “Crazy Heart,” “Away We Go,” “The Dark Knight,” “Stranger Than Fiction,” “World Trade Center,” “Monster House,” “Criminals,” “Strip Search,” “Mona Lisa Smile,” “Adaptation,” “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind,” “40 Days and 40 Nights,” “Secretary,” “Riding in Cars With Boys,” “Donnie Darko” and more.

Do you have a burning answer to one of the questions below for Maggie? Don’t delay! Time is short. Pick one of the five questions below and make your answer memorable! Some of the best answers will be read on the air!

  1. What is your favorite role of Maggie’s thus far? Is it Chicago’s own Gotham prosecutor Rachel Dawes in “The Dark Knight” or was it her evil-lascivious turn in the independent thriller “Secretary” that impressed you more?

  2. In “Crazy Heart,” Maggie plays journalist Jean Craddock: a woman who becomes romantically involved with an older man. With this 30-year difference in age comes some complications. Maggie has said: “It’s difficult for a relationship with such a gap to be healthy, but it happens all the time.”

How do relationships have challenges that are inherent in their very fabric? How much is this stigma of age relevant to an honest discussion about love?

  3. As she has a wide body of work, what two roles would you compare and contrast? Will she ever work with husband Peter Sarsgaard or brother Jake Gyllenhaal?

  4. Maggie has said: “We’ve traveled around a lot with Ramona (our toddler). While there are some wonderful things about that, what a young child really wants is stability and routine. She wants a sense of home. We’ve been trying to protect that and it’s one of our biggest challenges.”

What are the fun things you do to keep your family grounded and connected to each another when much of our modern lives are spent communing, traveling and sometimes relocating entirely?

  5. In 2007, Maggie wore Proenza Scholer to the 79th Academy Awards. In 2008, she wore a black and blue Zac Posen gown. In 2009, she wore a risky spot-print Lanvin dress to the Golden Globes. In 2010, Maggie wore Roulin Mouret to the Golden Globes and a Lanvin silk halter gown to the “Crazy Heart” premiere.

As the Oscars are less than a month away, the red carpet is looming in Maggie’s future again because of her “Crazy Heart” nomination. What should she wear? What are your favorite dresses of hers? She’s obviously a risk taker who likes exploring a wide variety of styles.

Speak up, HollywoodChicago.com readers!

If you want inspiration for how you’d like to pick Maggie’s brain on Friday’s broadcast, we present to you three beautiful red-carpet images sporting the creations of various designers! Maggie Gyllenhaal will be checking out this very page herself to follow the HollywoodChicago.com discussion between Wednesday and Friday of this week, so submit your burning answer for her now!

Favorite Role

While it’s difficult to nail down one role, I have to say that I quite enjoyed Maggie’s performance in Stranger Than Fiction. She was raw & vulnerable & funny & tough all while making it seem so effortless.

Question

When choosing a role, what character attributes do you tend to drift towards? The Dark Knight is a stark change from Stranger Than Fiction, for example, but there are also subtle similarities.

So enjoyed your performance

So enjoyed your performance in “Crazy Heart”; you and Mr. Bridges enfleshed the characters which resulted in a most natural, satisfied ending. Did Jake give you any pointers on how to persevere through the Oscar show?

Maggie...

Would you like to hang out in November or December?

Radiohead, etc.

Not sure whether you’re looking for answers or questions, Adam, but I’m going to pose a question for Maggie: Having originally met you and Peter on location when you were shooting Stranger Than Fiction in Chicago ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/jackknife_juggernaut/2020066507 ), during which conversation we discussed that day’s London transit bombings, politics more generally and Radiohead at the Garden in 2003, we spoke again on the Dark Knight shoot on LaSalle St. ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/jackknife_juggernaut/2020104031 ). On the latter occasion, I asked the best way to get you a bootleg of those Radiohead shows from ‘03, and you told me to send them via Tony at CAA, which I then did with “per Maggie” in the subject line. Did you get the links/files I tried to relay to you? If not, feel free to contact me at my email addy (rbarthjr@ameritech.net).
Best wishes,
Ron

PS Congrats on your daughter and on your marriage!

Maggie

I have only seen you in Stranger than Fiction and The DArk Night, as I can remember right now.

I liked you a lot in Stranger than Fiction.

I hope you figure out a way to spend time with your daughter. That should be important, so prioritize it.

Maggie Gyllenhaal

Your role in “Stranger Than Fiction” has always been one of my favorites. I really like how your character was not afraid to be herself. She found her true calling and went after it. I admire people who pursue their dreams and passions, while also finding a way to give back to the community.

Maggie, congratulations on your Oscar nomination. “Crazy Heart” was a wonderful film. You and Jeff Bridges gave outstanding performances.

All the best to you and your family, and I look forward to your upcoming films.

Why?

If I had one question for Maggie Gyllenhaal, it would be why, after promoting her image as being someone intellectual, caring, lacking in vanity, etc, she came out in favour of the fur trade. Why the lack of empathy with caged animals?

I should point out that until I found out about this, I greatly admired her. I thought she was very attractive. I thought her acting was wonderful in “Secretary”. I defended her against people who misrepresented her remarks about 9/11 and stood up for her right to breast feed in public. But now, I find her lack of empathy heartless.

I can understand people who eat meat, but I just don’t think that wanting to wear fur is the same sort of craving. Yes, it’s soft and nice to stroke, but so are a lot of other fabrics. I don’t think animals on fur farms lead a good life, I don’t see how anyone could wear fur unless they genuinely had no alternative. And she had other alternatives.

She made a big deal out of explaining that she didn’t want “Secretary” to send out the wrong message. But I have tried to find out the reason for her supporting fur and drawn a blank.

How did you prepare for SECRETARY?

Hi, Maggie!

You owned the screen in SECRETARY! Your emotional and physical transformation was mind-blowing! Many people say pinup/fetish model Bettie Page inspired them to express themselves. Did Bettie influence your performance?
