‘Two and a Half Men’ Star Charlie Sheen Preaches to UCLA Baseball Team on Drugs
CHICAGO – When most people think of UCLA sports, they think of the NCAA basketball team. Then it’s UCLA football, then UCLA dorm girls and somewhere down the line it’s UCLA baseball.

This week, though, UCLA baseball earned some headlines when the star of the CBS’s sitcom “Two and a Half Men” came through for some batting practice.
Yes, Charlie Sheen was a visitor, which is a better place for him to visit than, say, the hospital after record-breaking drug binges. Sheen is a big baseball fan and took some batting practice with the team along with a number of other Major League Baseball celebrities.
Coco Crisp, Eric Davis and Milton Bradley were part of the group, too. Somebody should make sure Sheen stays away from Bradley (who has had a Lindsay Lohan-like rap sheet of troubles while in the majors). Sheen actually took it fairly seriously as he showed up with his own bat and nearly hit a home run.
After batting practice, UCLA head coach John Savage asked Sheen to make an impromptu speech about drugs. It wasn’t something that was planned or coordinated. Many might think that if Sheen did do more rehab than actual drugs, he might be a good type of person to speak about his addiction recovery to other addicts. Sheen still did a decent job with the talk. He was received well as the team gave him a standing ovation.
It’s good for Sheen to be in the spotlight again without any mentions of overdosing or porn stars. But overall, he would be a much more effective speaker in the realm of drugs if he was speaking from the perspective of someone who has recovered from his struggle and not somebody who just binged last week. Nonetheless, hopefully some of the young players can learn from his experience.
