CHICAGO- The hit CBS reality show “Big Brother,” which has turned all of its viewers into peeping toms on the lives of the contestants, has been renewed for a fourteenth season. The news of the renewal comes at an exciting time for the series as the 90-minute finale of the thirteenth season premieres on CBS tonight at 8:30 P.M. CST.

“Big Brother,” which received its name from the George Orwell novel “Nineteen Eighty-Four,” follows the lives of a group of contestants that reside in a house together, isolated from the outside world, and complete with their very own set of cameras scattered through the house for all of America to watch their lives unfold.

The first season of the American version of “Big Brother” premiered in July 2000. The show has been hosted by CBS anchor Julie Chen since the very first season. Chen is also known for co-anchoring CBS’s “The Early Show” from 1999-2010 and co-hosting CBS’s parody of “The View” titled “The Talk.”

The finale of the thirteenth season has contestants Rachel, Porsche and Adam vying for the $500,000 prize and the title of ‘Big Brother Champion.’ The 90-minute conclusion will come to a TV set near you after CBS’s other major reality series premieres its newest season: “Survivor: South Pacific” (Season 23 of the show).

The fourteenth season renewal comes after “Big Brother” posted one of its most successful runs. The show’s thirteenth season averaged 8.1 million viewers week after week this summer and held its highest ratings since 2004 in the key demographic of adults 18-49 years old.
