CHICAGO – Fans of the hit FX series “Sons of Anarchy” will need to move their fourth season finale parties back a week. No, the show is not delayed, but, rather, extended. FX announced today that the fourth season will have one extra episode, bringing the season’s total to 14.

Executive Vice President of Original Programming at FX, Nick Grad, made the announcement in a press release today where he explained the show’s creator, Kurt Sutter, had asked for one more episode: “Creatively, this has been Sons’ best and biggest season ever,” said Grad. “Kurt asked us to consider adding an extra episode to fully close this current chapter of the Sons saga. By adding the extra episode, it wraps up a magnificent season in extraordinary fashion. This is a real bonus for fans of the series.”

The fourth season of the drama series has been a hit for FX, bringing in over 8.5 million viewers a week on a multi-telecast basis and 5.71 million viewers in the coveted 18-49 year old demographic.

The news of the extension comes right before the tenth episode of season four, which will premiere tomorrow on FX at 9 p.m. CST. Tomorrow night’s episode is titled “Hands.” The season four finale will now premiere on December 6, 2011 at 9 p.m. CST.
