CHICAGO – The biggest game of 2011 is getting even bigger in 2012. “Modern Warfare 3,” the smash-hit game that sold record numbers of games upon its release only a few short months ago, now has a schedule set for nine months of new content that will be released to Call of Duty Elite’s Premium Members on Xbox LIVE. The content will be released to other platforms later on.

The “Modern Warfare 3” Content Season for Call of Duty Elite will begin January 24, and the content drops will continue on all the way to September of 2012. The content will include broader variety, brand new multiplayer maps, Special Ops missions, new game modes, and more. In total, Activision has said there will be at least 20 different content drops. This will all start with the release of two new multiplayer maps called Liberation and Piazza.

CEO of Activision Publishing Eric Hirshberg revealed details today: “The mammoth launch of Modern Warfare 3 and the breakout success of Call of Duty Elite were just the beginning. Call of Duty Elite provides an “always-on” connection to our fanbase, and the MW3 Content Season is the ultimate way to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to the Call of Duty community and provide tremendous value to Call of Duty Elite premium members,” said Hirshberg. “With the Call of Duty: MW3 Content Season for Call of Duty Elite we are delivering on our promise of more new content, more often, and with more variety than ever. With three studios collaborating on the first season, the breadth and depth of material on tap is truly extraordinary. It’s rare you can successfully execute both quantity and quality, but thanks to the expertise of our developers, the reach of Call of Duty Elite and the passion of our fans, we intend to deliver.”

Content drops for Call of Duty Elite premium members will come once a month until September. However, if you aren’t an Elite premium member there is no need to fret. You can still buy the new content a la carte via Modern Warfare 3 Content Collections, but you will have to wait a little longer as the Elite premium members receive the drops first. Subscriptions for Call of Duty Elite Premium Membership run at $50 a year.
