CHICAGO – Few horror franchises hold up well over two decades. Recently-released box sets for the entire filmographies of “Nightmare on Elm Street” and “Friday the 13th” do little more than point out that most of these franchises were pretty horrible. While I would never proclaim any of the Chucky films to be in the league of a flick like “Elm Street” and there are at least two duds of the six films in here, the pretty fun “Curse of Chucky” proves that there’s actually more life in “Chucky: The Complete Collection” than you might expect.

“Child’s Play,” “Bride of Chucky,” and “Curse of Chucky” deliver. The other three? Not so much. But the whole set should appeal to Chucky fans because it’s well-packaged and well-accompanied by great special features on all 6 films. You even get an Ultraviolet copy of “Curse,” a flick that was originally going to serve as a reboot for the series but kind of just reimagines the back story of the character, present more in the over-the-top/gore style of the more recent “…of Chucky” films. There are hours of special features, including commentaries, deleted scenes, and featurettes. It’s the definitive set for Chucky fans, and should stand tall next to the “Elm Street” and “Friday” sets. Well, as tall as Chucky can stand.
