Exclusive Portrait: A Happy ‘Halloween’ from Jamie Lee Curtis

CHICAGO – It was 38 years ago that the seminal horror film “Halloween” was released, and its impact made a star out of the heroine in the film, Jamie Lee Curtis. Curtis was in the Chicago area in September to promote her new children’s book, “This is Me: The Story of Who and Where We Came From,” (illustrated by Laura Cornell).

Jamie Lee Curtis is the daughter of Hollywood “It” couple Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, and lived with her mother after her parents split in 1962. She lasted one semester at the University of the Pacific (Stockton, California), before pursuing a career in acting. In 1977 she made her TV debut on the series “Columbo,” but made her big splash one year later as Laurie Strode in John Carpenter’s “Halloween” (1978). As a movie star, she has done several classics, including three “Halloween” sequels, “A Fish Called Wanda” (1988), “True Lies” (1994), “Freaky Friday” (2003) and the recent “Veronica Mars” (2014). On TV, she starred in the sitcom “Anything But Love” from 1988 to 1992, and is currently featured in the dark comedy “Scream Queens.”

Curtis is also a prolific writer of children’s books, and “This is Me: The Story of Who and Where We Came From” is her eleventh book with illustrator Laura Cornell.
