The 16th Edition of the Tribeca Film Festival opens on April 19th, 2017, with “Clive Davis, The Soundtrack of Our Lives.” The film chronicles the historic influence of Mr. Davis, “The Man with the Golden Ears,” who as president of Columbia Records, founder of Arista Records, CEO of RCA Music Group and currently the Chief Creative Officer of Sony Music Entertainment was behind such music luminaries as Janis Joplin, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Aerosmith, Earth Wind & Fire, Barry Manilow, Aretha Franklin, Carly Simon, the Grateful Dead, Lou Reed, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys and Kelly Clarkson. Paula Weinstein, Executive Vice President of Tribeca Enterprises said, “The Tribeca Film Festival has a wonderful tradition of artists supporting artists, so honoring Clive Davis and his unwavering commitment to music and creativity is the perfect way to open our 16th annual festival.”

The Tribeca Film Festival was founded in 2002 by Jane Rosenthal, Craig Hatkoff and actor Robert De Niro as a reactive strike back at the September 11th attack in 2001 on New York City and the nearby Tribeca neighborhood. The 2017 Festival features screenings and awards for U.S. Narrative Films, World Narrative Films, Short Film Competition, Best Documentary, the Spotlight Competition and Best New Narrative and Documentary Filmmakers, among it’s presentations. It also has TV, Virtual Reality and Gaming presentations, and includes films from 28 countries, 78 World Premieres, six North American Premieres, two U.S. Premieres and six New York City Premieres.

Patrick McDonald, Editorial Coordinator and Writer for HollywoodChicago.com, will provide articles throughout the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival. Check in with HollywoodChicago.com daily from April 20-25th for Tribeca updates.

TV, DVD, BLU-RAY & THEATER REVIEWS

  • Bobby Pin Girls

CHICAGO – The “breeder years” are difficult on everyone, as the biological imperative becomes overwhelming and the couplings that result yield both discovery and misadventure. Nothing Without a Company’s new play “Bobby Pin Girls” highlight two such Millennial women, roommates who are having man trouble, although the argument can be made that it’s eternally “boy trouble.” The show has a Thursday-Sunday run at the Chicago Mosaic School through December 3rd, 2017. • Transformers 5 front

CHICAGO – Knock me over with a feather kids, but I enjoyed “Transformers: The Last Knight.” Maybe it was in comparison to the others or maybe director Michael Bay has beaten me into submission, but this one had the right story elements and casting to make it work, with exceptions of course. It’s goofiness is its charm, and it was released on Blu-Ray/DVD on September 26th, 2017 (Digital HD already available).
