Cheoi-Jong (Yoo Ji-Tae) was once a legendary professional bowler, but a devastating accident ends his promising career. Now, he feebly bowls in underground matches organized by Hee-jin (Lee-Jung Hyun), an owner of a bowling alley deep in debt. Fortune alludes both men, despite their high-stakes betting, until they discover an autistic-savant named Yung-Hoon (David Lee). His bizarre zen-like method of bowling makes him the most indomitable adversary that the “Sport of Kings” has ever seen. The Korea Joon Gang Daily said, “‘Split’ bowls its way into hearts.”
The Asian Pop-Up Cinema series – founded by Chicago film program veteran Sophia Wong Boccio – is a revolving showcase of diverse Asian films, with Hong Kong, China, Japan, Taiwan, South Korean, the Phillippines and Thailand all represented for the 2017 Fall Season, in films with English subtitles. Screenings occur at the AMC River East 21 in downtown Chicago, the Wilmette Theater in Wilmette, Illinois, and various locations for special free screenings (link to details below).
