CHICAGO – The 34th Chicago Latino Film Festival (CLFF) is underway, after a successful Opening Night on April 5th, 2018. One of the showcase films will have its Midwest Premiere on Saturday, April 7th, the horror tale “Murder in the Woods.” Directed by Luis Iga and written by Yelyna De Leon, the film features “Machete” star Danny Trejo and young Latino actors portraying teens that are being killed in mysterious circumstances during a cabin getaway. It’s a teenage getaway from the city to the woods, specifically a cabin. But the house contains a secret, and the teens unwittingly get pulled into it. One by one, they begin to disappear, and when those left behind begin to realize their friends are being murdered, it might be too late. Danny Trejo portrays an “officer” of the law, who might be their only hope. The tense slasher/horror movie also has a loose sense of humor, and throws in a Latin flavor through the story legends and casting.

In the following Podtalk, writer Yelyna De Leon and director Luis Iga of “Murder in the Woods” talk about their influences and the almost magical way that Danny Trejo became involved in the film.

The 34th Latino Film Festival takes place through April 19th, 2018, at the AMC River East 21 Theatres, 322 East Illinois Street, Chicago. For film schedules and ticket information click here. “Murder in the Woods” will also screen on April 9th.

  • Cher Show, The

CHICAGO – Cherilyn Sarkisian… yes, that is her birth name… is the redoubtable Cher, and it’s perfect timing for her to have a jukebox musical tribute. “The Cher Show,” covering three eras/songs of the six-decade career of Cher, opens for a Chicago preview before its Broadway run, from June 12th through July 25th, 2018.

  • ThroatPunch

CHICAGO – The provocative title of Sharon Krome’s new stage play, “ThroatPunch,” does not contain that particular fight technique. But it does have standout performances by the three person cast, as they make their way in Chicago, circa 1983, amid their emerging twentysomething punk rock attitude. The World Premiere of the show has a Thursday-Sunday run at the Chicago Mosaic School through June 3rd, 2018. Click here for more details, including ticket information.
