CHICAGO – The restaurant Katana, in the River North neighborhood of Chicago, was the setting for the unveiling of Michigan Avenue Magazine’s latest cover on April 3rd… their 2018 Spring Style issue. Actress Malin Akerman (“Billions,” “The Heartbreak Kid”), whose latest film is “Rampage,” graced the front of the issue.

The event, sponsored by the magazine, celebrated the Spring Issue with an appearance by Ms. Akerman, who walked a Red Carpet and posed for photos with the assembled attendees. Michigan Avenue Market President/Group Publisher Dan Uslan and Editor-in-Chief J.P. Anderson were also there to represent the magazine and toast the new issue. Malin Akerman’s role in “Rampage” – which is primarily set in Chicago – will be seen when the film is released on Thursday, April 12th, 2018.

Malin Akerman was born in Stockholm, Sweden, and moved to Canada when she was two years old (she has dual citizenship). She began her career as a teenage model, and was at college in Toronto when she was offered commercial work and guest roles on TV. She moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting fulltime and made her film debut in “The Skulls” (2001).

After landing a small role in “Harold & Kumar Got to White Castle” (2004), she had a breakout supporting character opposite Lisa Kudrow in the cult HBO series “The Comeback.” Several higher profile parts followed in films including “The Heartbreak Kid” (2007), “27 Dresses” (2008), “Watchmen” (2009), “Wanderlust” (2012) and “I’ll See You in My Dreams” (2015). She also has success on TV, as a regular on the Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim series “Children’s Hospital,” ABC-TV’s “Trophy Wife” and Showtime’s “Billions.”

In the following Podtalk from the Michigan Avenue Magazine event Red Carpet, Malin Akerman talks to HollywoodChicago.com about “Rampage,” “The Heartbreak Kid” and being Swedish/Canadian in the American entertainment industry.

  • It's NOT ALL About You John Michael

CHICAGO – John Michael epitomizes the art of the monologue. The Chicago transplant, by way of Dallas, is moving on (he says temporarily) from the city that inspired his last show, “Meatball Seance,” after notorious and successful runs of his other one-man shows, “John Michael and the Order of the Penix” and “Dementia Me.” His farewell performance is his latest, another laugh riot, “It’s NOT ALL About You John Michael,” and will take place at Mary’s Attic in Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood on March 1st, 2019. • Soccer Player in the Closet, The 2

CHICAGO – Connecting to the theater collective Nothing Without a Company means a couple of things. One, you may visit parts of Chicago you’ve never seen before – in this case a plant store in an industrial area south of Humboldt Park – and two, you will see some daring and outside-the-box stagings. “The Soccer Player in the Closet” is their latest production – a World Premiere – and it provides what the title implies and beyond. The play runs through March 17th, 2019. Click here for more details, including ticket information.
