CHICAGO – Like many of the other film festivals in 2020, the 38th edition of Chicago’s REELING LGBTQ+ fest will be virtual and online. Over the course of 11 days, 30 features and 54 short films from 21 countries will be presented. Click here for details.

CHICAGO – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com appears on “The Morning Mess” with Scott Thompson on WBGR-FM (Monroe, Wisconsin) on September 18th, 2020, reviewing the new films “The Nest” (in theaters) and “Antebellum” (VOD).

CHICAGO – His first film in 2011 was classic independent cinema. “Martha Marcy May Marlene” put writer/director Sean Durkin on the map, and now nine years later he has a new film, “The Nest,” which features Jude Law against type as a go-go 1980s financial guru who is trying to balance a career and family. The film releases in theaters on September 18th.

CHICAGO – One of Chicago’s most traditional film festivals will be doing what so many others have done in 2020, going virtual and online. CHICAGO – In collaboration with Chicago’s Asian Pop-Up Cinema (APUC), the Taiwanese American Chamber of Commerce is presenting – supported by The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) – “@Home with Taiwan Cinema: Love & Hope.” The five film series … streaming online for FREE … will begin on September 11th, 2020, and run through December.

CHICAGO – At the point HollywoodChicago.com last talked to author Lorraine Evanoff, it was during the summer reading season, during the time her latest novel “Pinot Noir” – the second novel featuring financial sleuth Louise Moscow – was winning awards and appearing on best seller lists.

CHICAGO – This weekend, the performance event called YippieFest – which normally has two stages making show for three days – is going online, with a video presentation of the various acts that give YippieFest its particular reputation. Frank Carr is the founder of YippieFest and the coordinator of the virtual and online version, which will be available at YippieFest.com through TWITCH.

CHICAGO – An exciting opening on Friday, August 14th, 2020, for the historic Music Box Theatre (which was the first movie house to open with safety precautions last month). They will be the ONLY movie theater in America to screen the 70mm print of director Christopher Nolan’s “Inception.” AMC Theaters in Chicago and surrounding suburbs are re-opening on August 20th.

CHICAGO – It’s coming! YippieFest 2020 – joining the virtual and online revolution during these particular times – is set for August 21st through the 23rd. CHICAGO – In the landscape of life, not many have experienced a journey like Jian Ping. Raised in China, she was a child during the political reign of Chairman Mao Zedong. Eventually ending up in Chicago, she wrote her 2008 memoir “Mulberry Child” about her childhood, which was made into a documentary and directed by Susan Morgan Cooper. The doc is now on Amazon Prime.
