Film Review: Realistic, Difficult Lives Are Exposed in ‘Wiener-Dog’
Submitted by PatrickMcD on July 20, 2016 - 2:44pmCHICAGO –Director Todd Solondz has made a career out of not shying away from the most uncomfortable negativities of life. From extreme disconnection (“Happiness”) to pedophilia (“Life During Wartime”) to the sad rejection of pre-teen years (“Welcome to the Dollhouse”), Solondz pulls no punches. He achieves that harsh intent yet again in “Wiener-Dog.”

Film Review: Anna Paquin Makes Each Moment Count in ‘Margaret’
Submitted by PatrickMcD on October 7, 2011 - 4:06pmCHICAGO – The passion of adolescence, so driven by the emerging intellect merged with fierce hormonal obligations, is a subject tailor made for the movies. The drama and distinction in “Margaret” is the nearly perfect portrayal of the main character played by Anna Paquin, against the backdrop of New York City.
Blu-Ray Review: ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ Bursts With Special Features
Submitted by BrianTT on November 15, 2010 - 4:58pmCHICAGO – Edgar Wright’s “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” may have been (incorrectly) perceived as a box office bomb but a large cult grew around the film before it was even released and it’s a following that will only grow stronger with the fantastic Blu-ray release, a disc filled with more special features than even the most hardcore fan of the movie could have hoped for. The movie is still a bit flawed but it plays well at home and I can’t say enough about how wonderful it is when a top-notch studio like Universal treats a loyal film following with the respect they deserve.
