TV Review: ABC’s ‘Take the Money and Run’ Gets Too Goofy
Submitted by BrianTT on August 2, 2011 - 10:15amCHICAGO – The first ten minutes or so of ABC’s new reality competition series “Take the Money and Run” is relatively promising and entertaining. Then it all gets very, very silly.
Blu-Ray Review: Catch Up With ‘Spy Kids’ Trilogy in HD Before Upcoming Sequel
Submitted by BrianTT on August 1, 2011 - 7:00pmCHICAGO – Before you spend your hard-earned cash taking the entire family to see “Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World,” you might as well catch up with the original “trilogy,” the very-popular series of films that most of us assumed were the end of this mediocre franchise. Don’t get me wrong — the first “Spy Kids” is actually a very fun movie and totally worth owning for Blu-ray buyers with kids of the right age but the two sequels are mediocre and annoying, respectively. Still, kids like to have complete collections and all of the films are hitting Blu-ray this week extras-packed HD editions with digital copies. Now you can take these precocious mini-Bonds anywhere.

Interview: John Michael McDonagh Takes Chances With ‘The Guard’
Submitted by BrianTT on August 1, 2011 - 6:39pmCHICAGO – From a classic tradition of abrasive-but-lovable anti-heroes, the lead of writer/director John Michael McDonagh’s “The Guard,” Officer Boyle (Brendan Gleeson), is one of the most memorable leads of the year. Played with trademark wit by Gleeson, Boyle does drugs, sleeps with hookers, and simply doesn’t care what you think about him.
Blu-Ray Review: Bradley Cooper in Stylish, Effective ‘Limitless’
Submitted by BrianTT on August 1, 2011 - 2:10pmCHICAGO – “Limitless” is a fun, clever riff on the timeless tale of a man who wanted the world but didn’t know the price. From Faust to Icarus to “The Lawnmower Man,” we’ve long been fascinated with the idea that not only is it possible to have it all but that those who do will pay greatly for the privilege. With the best work of Bradley Cooper’s career, stylish direction, and clever storytelling, “Limitless” is a great rental, now available on Blu-ray, DVD, iTunes, and wherever else you like to download new releases.

Blu-Ray Review: Criterion Tackles Todd Solondz’s ‘Life During Wartime’
Submitted by BrianTT on August 1, 2011 - 1:12pmCHICAGO – The Criterion deal with IFC Films has led to some very interesting additions to their collection including some controversial choices. The universally-acclaimed and upcoming “Carlos” may be understandable but do “Everlasting Moments” and “Revanche” deserve the standing that comes with the Criterion label? I’m torn and no more so than with the release of “Life During Wartime,” a decent and interesting flick that nonetheless would be FAR down the list of movies I would choose for induction into the most important club in DVD history.
Video Game Review: ‘F.E.A.R. 3’ Replaces Scares With Action
Submitted by BrianTT on August 1, 2011 - 12:23pmCHICAGO – Having played through dozens of survival horror games and become pretty knowledgeable on the entire universes of “Resident Evil” and “Silent Hill,” it’s rare for this video game critic to honestly experience fear while playing a new title.
Interview: Director Mike Cahill Conjures ‘Another Earth’
Submitted by PatrickMcD on August 1, 2011 - 12:46amCHICAGO – The real strength of the new film “Another Earth” doesn’t necessarily lie in the science fiction aspect of a world appearing in the sky and bearing down on our earth, but in the humanity that is changed and reflected through that event. Director Mike Cahill co-wrote and directed this impressive and imaginative film.
