One of their most popular summertime events, Chicago Opera Theater will set sail again on June 28th on their 3rd annual Opera Cruise, “High Cs on the High Seas.” The evening includes wine, beer, COT’s signature cocktail, the “Opera-tini”, small bites, and a short performance from COT alumni Katherine Calcamuggio and Scott Ramsay.
“Each summer we now look forward to this annual cruise on Lake Michigan with our COT friends,” said General Director Brian Dickie. “Not only is it a wonderful way to spend a summer evening, it is also a very important fundraiser for Chicago Opera Theater.”
Last year’s Opera Cruise raised over $8K for COT, and the goal for this year is to increase that amount significantly.
The boat departs at 6pm (boarding starts at 5:30pm) and the performance begins shortly after. Mezzo soprano Katherine Calcamuggio made her Chicago debut with Chicago Opera Theater and tenor Scott Ramsey sang in COT’s first season at the Harris Theater in 2004.
Katherine was a member of COT’s Young Artist Program and was last seen at COT in Dido and Aeneas (2006). Since then she has sang with Florida Grand Opera, Syracuse Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, as well as performed for Grammy-winning (and Chicago based) eighth blackbird.
Tenor Scott Ramsay sang for COT in 2004 in Viaggio a Reims. Scott has since sung with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Opera Boston, Ravinia Festival and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra with Sir Andrew Davis.
The evening will also include an exciting raffle with “A Night ‘LESS’ Ordinary” grand prize that includes a night’s stay at the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago, COT’s Exclusive Hotel Partner. With a limit of just 200 guests on the cruise, odds are excellent for taking home a prize, plus 100% of raffle proceeds benefit COT! Raffle tickets are included in the $100 ticket price and will be sold on board at 1 for $10, 3 for $20 and 10 for $60.
The Opera Cruise will continue on Lake Michigan with dancing under the stars until the boat docks at 8pm.
