favorite ron howard movie

Cocoon! His treatment of all the characters was brilliant! With any other director this movie could have come out as a comedy. A compelling look at the the natural progression of old age with a little sci fi with aliens thown in. Also love all of his movies since they are all something I can bring all members of my family to see.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It’s the only Seuss adaptation that doesn’t make me cringe.

A Beautiful Mind

A Beautiful Mind was a film that explored the difficulties experienced by someone brilliant but who had severe mental difficulties. Having gone to a college where all of the students had come from the top of their class, I remember seeing classmates who were headed in that same direction. To see it “immortalized” on the screen brought back memories of these friends who were destined to go down the same path.

The Ron Howard Movie that made the most impression on me?

I would have to say Backdraft.
I worked on that movie when they filmed it in Chicago, so it is very dear to me let alone I find that Ron Howard is a unique and creative director. He is very accurate when doing a movie as well as highly respected in the industry. He also worked with Chris Columbus on many locally shot movies in Chicago. He movies are well documented and thought out, which I find very few directors in the industry can do other than John Hughes and Chris Columbus.

I would love to be a part of the celebration. I was a member of the International Film Festival when in college and slowly drifted from that but miss it very much. Many famous individuals in the industry have attended this event for the past 46 years and I would love to be part of it to show my genuine support for Ron Howard, which he deserves!

This is a really hard call.

This is a really hard call. I relate to end enjoy many of Ron’s films. Apollo 13 and Willow are my two favorites. My daughters and I always enjoy The Grinch, even during the summertime! If I was forced to pick one I’d have to go with Willow. The passion, adventure, scenery, story and wonderful characters will go on forever! A sequel could be added at anytime!

Arrested Development

Actually… my favorite Ron Howard work that I can most relate to isn’t a film, but a television show. Not only is Arrested Development by far my favorite TV show for its clever writing and humorous execution, but it is also not too far off from what my family is like. Obviously the show is much more of a satirical portrayal of a crazy family than my own is, but I can still relate to Michael Bluth’s utter frustration when trying to keep them all together and (mostly) functional. Between my family members who fake being under witness protection to ones claiming they have an “evil twin”, my family life can be a bit dramatic, but never dull!

I also spent a significant portion of my childhood quite attached to Willow and Happy Days reruns! Willow is probably one of the reasons my odd sense of creativity sparked at such a young age and lead me towards my current career path in Computer Animation and Film. This experience would mean a lot to me and it would be a fantastic and much-needed evening out!

Ransom Means The Most To Me

The way Ron Howard was able to direct Mel Gibson’s amazing portrayal of the torment a parent feels when his child is taken, his willingness to do anything, no matter the consequences, to get that child back and the rage and desire for revenge against those responsible really moved me. The performance unfolded in a very exciting, well paced thriller that had me on the edge of my seat throughout it. To combine this drama and suspense in a single film was the greatest achievement of what has been a fantastic career.
