CHICAGOTV By the Numbers is reporting that the rumor that NBC had renewed “Chuck” is definitely true and they have ordered a 13-episode new season while showing low-rated “The Event” the door.

Like so many recent “Lost” wannabes, “The Event” started with strong ratings but sunk quickly and was unable to recover after a long hiatus and a bit of retooling. No one expected “The Event” to return but now the cancellation is official.

While we were one of the very few outlets to predict a “Chuck” renewal (allow us to gloat a bit), it’s not too surprising that the network is hedging their bets with a shortened season. Start the bubble watch for Fall 2012 now!
