CHICAGO – Liam Neeson may have opted out of landing a cameo in “The Hangover Part II,” but now sources are hinting that the Oscar-nominated actor may have set his sights on appearing in an even more anticipated sequel.

According to HitFix.com and Variety, Neeson has been spotted on the London set for “The Dark Knight Rises,” the third installment in director Christopher Nolan’s phenomenally successful “Batman” franchise. Though Warner Brothers has not commented on the specifics of the casting, speculation indicates that Neeson may be reprising the role of Ra’s al Ghul, Bruce Wayne’s mentor and nemesis in Nolan’s 2005 hit, “Batman Begins.”

IMDb has already credited actor Josh Pence (best known for his portrayal of the Winklevoss twins in David Fincher’s “The Social Network”) in the role of a young Ra’s al Ghul, while co-star Marion Cotillard is rumored to have the role of Talia al Ghul (under the alias of Miranda Tate), the villain’s estranged daughter. The star-studded cast is also said to feature Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Juno Temple and Matthew Modine.

In related news, Batman-News.com has just released photos from the Licensing International Expo in Las Vegas that display what may be the first official logo for “The Dark Knight Rises.” It shows the signature “Batman” logo against a blue light, illuminating the distinctive outline that was blown apart in the initial teaser for “The Dark Knight.” The site for “The Dark Knight Rises” has also released the first photo of “Inception” star Tom Hardy in the role of Bane.

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman and Michael Caine. It is written by Christopher and Jonathan Nolan and directed by Christopher Nolan. It is set to open July 20, 2012.
