CHICAGO – If you’ve never seen the farcical ensemble theater chestnut “Noises Off,” you will see no better version than on the Steppenwolf Theatre stage, now at their northside Chicago venue through November 3rd. For tickets and details for this riotous theater experience, click NOISES OFF.
Blu-Ray Review: Amazing Series Ends With ‘The Twilight Zone: Season 5’
CHICAGO – HollywoodChicago.com has never heaped as much praise on one series of releases as the season sets for one of the best shows of all time — “The Twilight Zone”. Did you really think we would change our tune with the fifth and final season of this amazingly-influential program? Of course not. Complete your collection.
Blu-ray Rating: 5.0/5.0 |
Airing from Fall 1963 to Spring 1964, the fifth season of “The Twilight Zone” was the last of this amazing show. You can now own all 156 episodes plus DAYS of special features in five of the best TV-on-Blu-ray sets that have ever been produced. And, while the fourth season was a bit of a dip in quality (the show couldn’t quite survive the stretch to an hour long), the fifth marked a return to form. Some of your favorite episodes in the history of “The Twilight Zone” are in this set. Notable episodes include “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet,” “Living Doll,” “Number 12 Looks Just Like You,” “Night Call,” “The Encounter,” and “The Fear.”

As for notable and current-and-future stars of this 36-episode season, you’ll be treated to Jack Klugman, Lee Marvin, William Shatner, Mickey Rooney, Telly Savalas, Martin Landau, and George Takei.
Each episode of season five of “The Twilight Zone” is presented in its standard 1.33:1 full frame format with an HD transfer that’s pitch-perfect for the show, allowing it to look great but not overly or incorrectly polished. Once again, “The Twilight Zone” looks just right, continuing the fact that these should be the model for what old programs look like in HD.
The special features are, once again, INSANE, with an impressive blend of previously-available material and new exclusives. There are TWENTY new audio commentaries featuring historians, authors, and even stars (Takei!). Other new material includes “Conversations with Rod Serling,” an audio interview, and 22 radio dramas of episodes from this season including stars like Adam Baldwin, Louis Gossett Jr., Luke Perry, Karen Black, Jason Alexander, and more.
The collection also features every piece of old bonus material, including promos, radio dramas, video interviews, and even a Mike Wallace interview.
The fourth season is my least favorite of “The Twilight Zone” program but this is STILL one of the best Blu-ray releases of 2011.
