CHICAGO – Zombie skulls were not the only thing being bashed in on this past Sunday evening. Rick didn’t have to use a big rock to knock ratings out of the park, as the second season premiere of “The Walking Dead” brought in a staggering 11 million total viewers for the premiere and the two replays of the episode that followed at 10: 30 and 12 EST. The total was the largest for a drama series in basic cable history.

The 11 million viewers of the episode included 7.3 million viewers during the 9 p.m. EST premiere. Also, the episode brought in 4.8 million viewers in the coveted 18-49 age demo. The AMC drama also received strong reviews from many of critics, including a 4.5 out of 5 rating from HollywoodChicago.com critic Brian Tallerico.

We will have to wait until next Sunday to see if “The Walking Dead” can keep up the record pace, or if the numbers will die off much like the survivors on the show.
