Video Game News: Justin Verlander Named Cover Athlete For ‘MLB 2K12’
CHICAGO – Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander, who just won the MLB Players Association’s Player of the Year Award, was named the new cover athlete for “Major League Baseball 2K12” this morning. The game is scheduled for release on March 9, 2012.
The decision to pick Verlander as the cover athlete came after a year where the pitcher went 24-5 as a starter and helped take the Tigers to the American League Championship Series, where they fell to the Texas Rangers. Verlander also pitched his second no-hitter in the 2011 season, becoming the thirteenth pitcher to pitch multiple no hitters in his career, and the first since Mark Buehrle did it with the Chicago White Sox.
“It’s a dream come true to be on the cover of Major League Baseball 2K12,” Verlander said. “I’ve worked closely with 2K Sports on the MLB 2K series since 2007, and I couldn’t be more excited to continue my relationship with such a great baseball game.”
The game will be released to virtually every gaming console come may, including: Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii, Nintendo DS, and Windows PC.
