CHICAGO – After almost six seasons of avenging murders from everyone’s favorite Miami Metro blood specialist/serial killer, “Dexter” has been renewed for two more seasons. The hit Showtime drama will start production on season seven next year in Los Angeles.

Starring Michael C. Hall, “Dexter,” the story of a blood specialist who murders criminals that got away, has been a hit for Showtime ever since it premiered and is the networks number one drama series. The series has averaged 5.12 million viewers on all platforms during its current sixth season, which will premiere its eighth episode this Sunday at 8 p.m. CST.

The announcement of the show’s renewal came from the President of Entertainment at Showtime, David Nevins: “ Dexter’s enormous success is a real tribute to the great achievements of its cast, producers, and the powerhouse performance of Michael C. Hall,” said Nevins. “The series is bigger than it’s ever been in its sixth season, both in terms of audience and its impact on the cultural landscape. Together with Michael, the creative team on the show has a very clear sense of where they intend to take the show over the next two seasons and, as a huge fan, I’m excited to watch the story of Dexter Morgan play out.”
