Film News: ‘Tintin,’ ‘Harry Potter,’ ‘Transformers’ Lead List of Visual Effects Society Nominations
CHICAGO – The nominations for this year’s Visual Effects Society Awards have been announced, and it is hard to say that there are any surprises. Steven Spielberg’s “The Adventures of Tintin” lead the way with six different nominations.
The six nominations “The Adventures of Tintin” received were in the following categories: Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Feature Motion Picture, Oustanding Animated Character in an Animated Feature Motion Picture, Three different nominations in Outstanding Created Environment in an Animated Feature Motion Picture, and Outstanding Virtual Cinematography in an Animated Feature Motion Picture.
Following “Tintin” for the lead in nominations was “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” and “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” with five nominations each, and “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” and “Rango” with four nominations for both films. All of the top nominee recipients were included in the top three award categories: Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Feature Motion Picture, Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Feature Motion Picture, and Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Feature Motion Picture. The other films nominated in the major categories include: “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” “Anonymous,” “Hugo,” Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” “Source Code,” “War Horse,” “Arthur Christmas,” “Kung Fu Panda 2,” and “Puss in Boots
In the major TV categories, the nominees for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Broadcast Miniseries, Movie, or Special went to “Finding Life Beyond Earth,” “Gettysburg,” “Inside the Human Body,” and “Prep & Landing: Naughty vs. Nice.” The other category, Outstanding Visual Effects in a Broadcast Series, gave nominations to “Falling Skies,” “Fringe,” “Planet Dinosaur,” “Terra Nova,” and “The Bomber.”
