Film News: Focus Features Picks Up ‘For a Good Time, Call…’ at Sundance

CHICAGO – The Sundance film festival has been in full swing for the better part of the last week, and word keeps coming in about films that have been picked up for distribution by studios. The newest add to the list is the contemporary comedy “For a Good Time, Call…,” which was picked up by Focus Features.

“For a Good Time, Call…” is a comedy about two young women who agree to live together in New York as both are short on cash. Soon, the pair forms a successful business for themselves…a sex hotline. The film was written by Lauren Anne Miller and Katie Anne Naylon. The pair also produced the film, along with Josh Kesselman, Jenny Hinkey, and Jennifer Weinbaum.

Focus CEO James Schamus had the following to say about the newly acquired film: “The ‘For a Good Time, Call…’ team have crafted that rarest of combinations – a wildly funny comedy that’s also a genuine and heartfelt celebration of friendship and love. We’re so proud to join them in bringing to the world a film that not only lifted its cheering audiences at Sundance to their feet, but lifted our spirits, too.”

“For a Good Time, Call…” is not the only film to find distribution in the last week. Other films that have been picked up for distribution at Sundance include: “Beasts of the Southern Wild” (Fox Searchlight, reported $2 million deal), Rashida Jones’s “Celeste and Jesse Forever” (Sony Pictures Classic, reported $2 million deal), “Black Rock” (LD Distribution), and “The Surrogate” (Fox Searchlight, reported $6 million deal).
