CHICAGO – The saga of HBO’s brilliant “Game of Thrones” will continue for at least another season as the network just announced that the hit program has been renewed for a third outing. Michael Lombardo, President of HBO Programming, made the unsurprising announcement today, after only two episodes of the second season have aired to enormous ratings.
The season two premiere, according to HBO, has accumulated a gross audience of 8.3 million viewers and should track to a million more with repeat viewings, HBO Go, and other outlets. That’s a TON of viewers for the show based on the hit book series by George R. R. Martin.
As Lombardo said, “Series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss raised our expectations for the second season – and then surpassed them. We are thrilled by all the viewer and media support we’ve received for the series, and can’t wait to see what Dan and David have in store for next season.”
“Game of Thrones” stars Peter Dinklage, Michelle Fairley, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Aidan Gillen, Iain Glen, Kit Harington, Richard Madden, Maisie Williams, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Sophie Turner, Jack Gleeson and Alfie Allen.
