DVD Review: ‘Franklin & Bash: The Complete First Season’
CHICAGO – Fans of “Franklin & Bash” may have a reasonable bit of concern given the so-so ratings of the TNT program. We here at HC have defended the show a few times (in this interview and this review) and the recently-released DVD from Sony is another solid offering (although it’s obnoxious to not offer a 2011 program on Blu-ray) but poor Breckin Meyer & Mark-Paul Gosselaar aren’t quite delivering like several of the other cable hits of the season.
Rating: 3.5/5.0 |
Want the numbers? The last Tuesday for which numbers are available reveals that almost 3 million people watched “Franklin & Bash,” solid numbers for a cable show but WELL below the 5.4 million notched by its night-mate, “Rizzoli & Isles.” And the 18-49 demo, the only number that really counts, is an even more dismal tale as the show’s 0.7 rating was below “Dance Moms,” “Deadliest Catch,” “Storage Wars,” and repeats of “The Big Bang Theory” and “Family Guy.”
Who cares, right? We shouldn’t be judging a DVD set on the popularity of the show, right? The reason I mention it is because I think “Franklin” should be a bigger hit. (Certainly more than “Dance Moms”). And I want to encourage you to take a look, catching up with the first season on DVD. It’s not a genre-buster but the stars are likable enough to keep you entertained and the supporting cast is remarkably solid. Honestly, if you’re watching “Rizzoli” and not “Franklin,” I’m a little confused. Perhaps you’re not familiar with the show. Pick up the first season DVD and try to keep this show around long enough to see a third outing.
