DVD Review: Clever, Fun First Season of British Hit ‘Misfits’
CHICAGO – I had been hearing for years about how smart and fun the British drama/sci-fi/comedy show “Misfits” was but I still had my doubts. Sometimes when a show comes with a bit too much hype, it can more easily disappoint. There’s nothing disappointing about “Misfits,” a show that’s constantly surprising, smart, and fun. The only disappointment is that we only have the first season on DVD and not the other three…yet.
Rating: 4.5/5.0 |
The quote on the front of the DVD case for “Misfits: Season One” is a bit misleading — “Heroes with Buffy-esque snark.” In no way is this show as deadly self-serious as “Heroes,” a program that didn’t have half the witty dialogue in its entire run as one episode of this show. I don’t mean to come down hard on “Heroes” but that show quickly became about everything but its characters — prophecies, fate, destiny, etc. “Misfits” is so dependent on great characters with great dialogue. It’s dark, sexy, funny, and so very clever. It defies categorization or genre. Just see it. And do it soon so the second season DVD can get here more quickly.
Misfits: Season One was released on DVD on July 31, 2012
