CHICAGO – “Headhunters” is such a clever little thriller. It’s old-fashioned in the sense that it features a small number of characters in a game of cat-and-cat-and-mouse with two-guys-and-a-girl structure but it’s also very technologically advanced. It takes the best traits of the ’70s thriller and marries them to ’10s technology. And it’s so strikingly well-made and confidently directed. The end is a little disappointing but the trip there is fun ride.

“Headhunters” is a remarkably stylish film about an art thief, a mercenary, and a woman caught between them. It features some spectacular twists and turns but it’s not overly obsessed with ridiculous coincidences or bizarre action set pieces. It’s more devoted to character and how things like fear that we will lose the woman that is out of our league can lead men to do some pretty stupid sh*t. The three leads are spectacular, the film is loaded with style, and the plotting is never boring. It makes sense that Hollywood is currently prepping a remake. See this version before they ruin it.
