CHICAGO – My God, “Judge Dredd” is bad. I forgot how bad until I rewatched it in its recent Blu-ray edition, clearly timed to ride the wave of the release of “Dredd 3D” in theaters. The movie has been remastered well in HD but that’s about the last nice thing one can possibly say about it.

Most people involved have wisely distanced themselves from the box office bomb over the years and even the makers of the new “Dredd” would probably prefer you don’t even remember this movie exists in much the same way that “Batman Begins” didn’t tie itself to “Batman Forever.” Yes, this movie is that bad. A tonal mess that has aged horrendously, the Blu-ray release of “Judge Dredd” is merely for hardcore fans of superhero movies, Stallone, or cinematic disasters of the ’90s.
