Blu-ray Review: Smash Hit ‘Ted’ Gets Release Stuffed with Extras
CHICAGO – Even the most confident people behind the scenes of Seth MacFarlane’s “Ted” must have been blown away by its success, arguably the most surprising hit of 2012. $100 million domestic would have made the movie a success but it made double that and half-a-billion worldwide, ranking as the 7th highest grossing R-rated film of all time domestically. It’s a phenomenon and Universal treats it thusly with a nicely-packed Blu-ray release with deleted scenes, featurettes, and more.
Rating: 4.0/5.0 |
Clearly beginning to cement its place as one of those flicks that you know you will watch at least part of every time its on cable, you may wonder how “Ted” holds up on repeat viewing. Quite well. In fact, the film plays better at home where its missed jokes don’t thud in a crowded theater and its pacing issues don’t feel as problematic while you’re sitting on the couch. It’s a very funny movie, arguably the most laughs-generated-per-minute of anything in 2012. And the special features are stellar, including some very funny alternate takes and a great gag reel. It’s also fun to see how MacFarlane was often on-set in the Ted spot to give actors like Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis something to play off.
Ted was released on Blu-ray and DVD on December 11, 2012
