Blu-ray Review: ‘I, Frankenstein’ Could Be Worst Movie of 2014 So Far

I’m sometimes in the mood for a bad movie. In the middle of the Chicago Critics Film Festival, weighed down with stress related to producing it and the serious subject matter of our films this year, I felt a need for a bit of movie fast food and popped in “I, Frankenstein,” recently released on Blu-ray and DVD. This movie cheeseburger will give you food poisoning. It’s a horrendous, baffling film, the kind of release that makes you wonder what the heck people were thinking when they made it. There’s not an interesting character, the action is poorly choreographed, and the dialogue is laughable. It’s one of those films that makes you wonder if they KNEW it was bad. They had to, right?

Poor Aaron Eckhart, who really looked on the verge of a career uptick in the era of “The Dark Knight,” “Thank You For Smoking,” and “Rabbit Hole,” hits a career low as the title character, now named Adam and reimagined as an immortal superhero. He’s the Highlander, a demon killer who lives forever. Sounds fun, right? It’s not. The special effects are cheap, the production design looks ridiculous, and the dialogue, Oh My God, the dialogue. It’s painful to listen to, like a 5th grader writing fantasy fan fiction. If he turned this in, he’d be held back a year.

Synopsis:
