CHICAGO – Filmmaking in Chicago just got another feather in its cap, as writer/director Yuri Rutman is about to premiere his short film “Trained” on the prestigious Shorts TV channel. Shorts TV is the official distributor of the Oscar nominated shorts every year, and picked up Rutman’s film as a high-level example of this truncated cinematic art form.

“Trained” features Jenny Diamico as Emma, a woman in an obsessive relationship with Jake (Yuri Rutman, also portraying the lead). She reveals that she has an oddball sexual quirk called Siderodromophilia … she can only get aroused in proximity to or riding on a train. Jake accommodates her much as he can, but her particular condition is so embedded that even his all-consuming love for her can’t satiate it. Filmed in and around Chicago, the film combines its quirkiness with intense on-screen love, creative visuality and of course all of the trains that Chicagoans commute on. The 18 minute film was shot in two days with cinematographer Scott Drucker, and will premiere on Shorts TV channel on Saturday, August 31st, at 11:30pm ET/10:30pm CT. For more information on Shorts TV, click here.

Yuri Rutman was born in Kiev, Ukraine, and moved to the United States when he was three years old. After graduating from Niles West in suburban Skokie, he lasted for a month in college before deciding that making films would be his freedom. His first film was “Mr. Id” (2003), and he later wrote/directed the TV series “Cow Chasers” and “Warsaw, Chicago.” The short film “Trained” is his second film.
