CHICAGO – The Asian Pop-Up Cinema (APUC) of Chicago wishes everyone a HAPPY CHINESE LUNAR NEW YEAR … the Year of the Ox. To celebrate the day, how about a FREE Chinese Film Series, and an interview via Zoom with the President of APUC, Colin Hara. Mr. Hara has been part of the Governing Board of the cinema series since 2018, and is in his third year as president.!—break—>
To celebrate the Year of the Ox, with the support of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Chicago, APUC will be showcasing SEVEN Chinese films FREE beginning February 12th, 2021. Click here for all the details.
The ongoing success of APUC is due to its founder – veteran film curator Sophia Wong Boccio – who coordinates the elements of the board of directors, vendors, Chicago communities and volunteers to present the screenings and events. Like many film festivals and series she had to reinvent APUC during the canceled Season Ten in spring of 2020, and came roaring back with a hybrid drive-in and online series for Season 11. The upcoming Season 12 will go that route again, and the line-up will be announced on March 2nd, 2021.

Here are some insights from the APUC Board Members …
“The Asian Pop-up Cinema is a wonderful way to introduce a wide range of Asian cultures to new audiences in the USA. Contemporary cinema is a perfect vehicle to foster mutual understanding of diverse cultures in our increasingly integrated world. Sophia’s Choice has an important role to play.” ~ Lijun Chadima
“It’s an honor to serve on the board of Asian Pop-up Cinema. I’ve been working with Sophia Wong Boccio on some of the marketing projects for APUC over the last few years. Sophia’s energy and enthusiasm is contagious. It’s evident in the rapid growth and success of APUC. I’m thrilled to be part of this wonderful organization, and hopefully can help expand its reach beyond Chicago.” ~ Carmen Suen
“Honored to join the board of Asian Pop-Up Cinema. Asian cinema has had a special place in my heart since I was young, as I was able to learn about my culture, the language, I was able to see people on the screen that looked like me and act like my family and I.” ~ Lisa An Wong
