Via Zoom: Director Maria Finitzo’s ‘The Dilemma of Desire’ at Midwest Film Festival, Oct. 2, 2021
CHICAGO – The Midwest Film Festival, which launched a reboot in the beginning of 2020, will hold their first in-theater event – at Chicago’s downtown Gene Siskel Film Center – since that time. On October 2nd, 2021, the Festival will screen “The Dilemma of Desire,” which is a sex education film that should be shown everywhere, about women’s biology, the female freedom of desire and the equality of honest dialogue. The documentary was directed by veteran filmmaker Maria Finitzo. For more info and tickets, click Midwest Film Festival.!—break—>
What does it say about humanity and our inner biology when most women (and virtually all men) cannot identify the female body’s source of sexual pleasure, even as they indulge in sex? There is a name for it … the Clitoris … but the anatomy and purpose of its sexual nature continues to evoke cultural dismay and flat out mystery. Director Finitzo is not looking at this dryly or salaciously, but connecting the freedom of desire to a woman’s power, and how activists – younger and more fluid in their sexual orientations – are leading to way to “Clitocracy.” The film is a must-see font of power and authenticity, for ourselves and our very nature. The documentary is produced in part by Chicago’s Kartemquin Films, leading the way to uplifting humanity.

The Midwest Film Festival holds its first in-theater event since 2020, at Chicago’s destination for cinema culture, the Gene Siskel Film Center. The event kicks off at 6pm, with a pre-film-reception networking event, followed by the film/post Q&A (moderated by filmmaker Oriana Oppice) and an After Party beginning at 9:30pm. All events will take place at the Siskel Center.
The Midwest Film Festival has also been a staple in the Windy City’s film community for 17 years. At the beginning of 2020, it reinvented itself with Executive Director Erica Duffy (CLICK HERE for an interview) and continues as a celebratory and inclusive perspective on the local Chicago and Midwest film community.
