Jeffrey Wright is Monk Ellison, a down on his heels black novelist whose publisher has just rejected his latest effort. When family issues start to weigh him down, including a mother (Leslie Uggams) who is suffering from dementia and brother Cliff (Sterling K. Brown) who is just coming out as gay, he needs a source of income quickly. Noting the success of urban black street language books, he creates a similar work in one drunken night. In a series of events the book takes off as a best seller, and he has to maintain the charade, including a pen name that he has to maintain as a real person. What price is success?

”American Fiction” is in theaters on December 22nd. Featuring the voices of Jeffrey Wright, Tracee Ellis Ross, Sterling K. Brown, Issa Rae and Leslie Uggams. Screenplay adapted and directed by Cord Jefferson. Rated “R”
