DVD Review: Criterion Collection Invites You to ‘My Dinner With Andre’
Submitted by BrianTT on June 30, 2009 - 7:00amCHICAGO – I have to admit to having more respect for “My Dinner With Andre” than getting actual enjoyment from the talkative film itself. I understand the praise and awards that the film won and can see how it would have sent a ripple through the art movie world in 1981 when it was released, but I’ve never been a fan of Wallace Shawn, Andre Gregory, and Louis Malle’s film that brings new meaning to the phrase “dialogue-based”.

Submitted by PatrickMcD on June 29, 2009 - 4:23pmCHICAGO – In making a Chicago appearance at the Gabby Awards, which honored prominent Greek Americans, actress Nia Vardalos justifiably follows through on the heritage displayed in her hit “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.”
DVD Review: Chuck Jones’ Masterful ‘Tom and Jerry’ Shorts Finally Available
Submitted by BrianTT on June 29, 2009 - 7:00amCHICAGO – Like a lot of people, “Tom and Jerry” was a major part of my childhood. When I was younger, there weren’t nearly as many choices for children’s entertainment and I wonder if kids nowadays even know who Tom and Jerry are. We may not have had 500 channels, but when you have Tom, Jerry, the Looney Tunes gang, and the Muppets, you don’t need them.

Though there are positive aspects to each of these things, inherent within each are moral dilemmas we will have to face.

TV Review: HBO’s ‘Hung’ With Thomas Jane is Surprisingly Limp
Submitted by BrianTT on June 26, 2009 - 7:00amCHICAGO – Pardon the obvious metaphors, but when you name a show “Hung” and feature a motivational speech about the lead character finding “his tool,” it’s damn-near impossible not to fall into the same pattern.

Video Game Review: ‘Prototype’ Plays Like a Superhero Greatest Hit
Submitted by BrianTT on June 25, 2009 - 8:00amCHICAGO – Activision’s action game “Prototype” blends elements of several previous superhero icons into one massive superpowered experience that has a few visceral thrills and concepts that make it worth a look but some gameplay and storytelling issues that hold it back from true greatness.
Blu-Ray Review: Amazing ‘Waltz With Bashir’ a Must-See in HD
Submitted by BrianTT on June 25, 2009 - 7:00amCHICAGO – Ari Folman’s amazing “Waltz With Bashir” defies easy description. It may sound cliched but it is literally unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. Folman’s amazing film should have won Best Foreign Language Film (it lost the Oscar to the inferior “Departures”) and should have also been nominated for Best Animated Film and Best Documentary. Don’t miss it.
