CHICAGO – Filming for the fourth installment in the “Scream” franchise will start sometime in April or May as the first of a new trilogy, with Wes Craven as the director, Bob Weinstein has reported. The first two “Scream” films grossed more than $100 million each, while the third installment grossed $89 million. Kevin Williamson, writer of all the “Scream” films, will be writing the film.
It was also announced that “Halloween 3D” will start up production in November. A release date is currently set for October 2010.
Dimension will also remake “Children of the Corn” and a 3D sequel/remake of “Hellraiser” and “Scanners.” Also on slate are sequels to “Short Circuit” and “An American Werewolf in London”.
“I’m heading back to my franchise films,” says Weinstein to Variety. “These films are our strength, and we are committed to doing them in style. There is no question that financing is readily available to produce and market these films. I am eager to expand our scope in the 3D business.”
