Here is the “The House of the Devil” plot description:

From writer and director Ti West comes “The House of the Devil”: a satanic thriller set in the 1980s starring Jocelin Donahue (J.T. Petty’s forthcoming “The Burrowers”), indie ingénue Greta Gerwig (“Hannah Takes the Stairs,” “Baghead”), Tom Noonan (“Snow Angels,” “Manhunter”), Mary Woronov (“Eating Raoul,” “The Devil’s Rejects”), AJ Bowen (“The Signal”) and Dee Wallace (“E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial,” Rob Zombie’s “Halloween”).

Sam (Donahue) is a pretty college sophomore who’s so desperate to earn some cash for a deposit on an apartment that she accepts a babysitting job even after she finds out there is no baby. Mr. and Mrs. Ulman (cult actors Noonan and Woronov) are the older couple who lure Sam out to their creeky Victorian mansion deep in the woods just in time for a total lunar eclipse.

Megan (Gerwig) is Sam’s best friend who gives her a ride out to the house and reluctantly leaves her there despite suspecting that something is amiss. While Victor (Bowen) at first seems like just a creepy guy lurking around the house, he quickly makes it clear that Sam will end this night in a bloody fight for her life.

When you hear that music sound effect, your heart starts beating really quick cause something’s going to happen!

scare tactic

i think the best scare tactic is when something jumps toward the camera or out of the blue without you know what’s going on.

those make me jump EVERY TIME!!

Scare tactics

Music and sound effects are, to me, the greatest scare tactics. A crescendo, a creaking door, a scream, nothing can beat the sounds that come along with a scary movie. I think about the scariest movie of my childhood, Psycho, and the shower scene. It wasn’t the stabbing or the blood running down the tub that really got us, it was the shrieking that went along with it.
Definitely the sounds are the scraiest tactics. Scary music, sound effects and some horrifying faces due to decent acting doesn’t hurt either.

effective scare tactic

tha most effective scare tactic is the use of psychological
games. While everyone expects a bloody movie, very few anticipate thinking about who the killer might be

The most successful scare tactic in a horror film is...

… when there are unexpected twists and unparalleled suspense. Although not (technically) a horror film, “Alien” reigns supreme for its scare tactics, using darkness and claustrophobic confines to exquisite degrees… the crew never knew where the alien was, nor did the audience. You just knew it was SOMEwhere, and that it was hungry. The twists provided by having the crew killed off one-by-one added to that, as well, since you never had any idea who (if anyone!) would survive. I’ll take that over disembowelment any day!

Scare Tactic

Its all about the suspense and the right timing for the monster or attacker to come out n do its thing.

Scare Tactic

It’s always that creepy music just before something bad happens.

The House of The Devil

The best scare tactic in a movie is having a killer jump out at the screen unexpectedly.

Horror Films

The best scare tactics horror films use is the element of suprise, that and not recycling a plot to death
