CHICAGO – You must have some respect, at least from a business perspective, for ABC’s pop phenomenon of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette,” which returns tonight on ABC for another round of rose ceremonies, broken hearts, group dates, tabloid headlines, and strong ratings.

CHICAGO – NBC & FOX released their schedules already this week and there are a few interesting highlights, but ABC has released easily the most aggressive and ambitious new slate of programs, which will feature at least one new program five nights a week.

CHICAGO – We said earlier this week that ABC would have to choose one of their three comedies — “Happy Endings,” “Mr. Sunshine,” and “Better With You” and we predicted/hoped that “Happy” would be the favorite. We were right.

CHICAGO – It premiered late in the season so it makes sense that the renewal of Dana Delany’s drama “Body of Proof” also served as an echo to the major announcement earlier today about ABC’s renewal of “Happy Endings” and cancellation of six other programs.

CHICAGO – It was a brutal Friday the 13th for a lot of people who work for programs on ABC as six shows have officially been given the axe in the lead-up to next week’s official Fall schedule announcement. On the other side of the coin, “Happy Endings” was saved (as we predicted and hoped).

CHICAGO – A week from today - May 16, 2011 - the TV networks will begin the annual unveiling of their fall schedules, and a very-hazy picture will be much clearer by the end of next week. There will be a few miracles, but some hearts will surely be broken. With more programs on the bubble than ever before, what will be renewed and what will be shown the door?

CHICAGO – ABC’s new sitcom “Happy Endings” is undeniably yet another “Friends” rip-off, an attempt to make a pal-com about relationships, misunderstandings, and good buddies. I’ve seen enough of these things that I automatically get a bit defensive when they appear on my desk. If you sat through junk like “Traffic Light” and “Perfect Couples,” you would too.

CHICAGO – Meet Megan Hunt. On second thought, don’t. In fact, avoid her like the plague. If you see her walking toward you, make sure to cross the street or dive into the next room. The woman needs space, you see. She’s been through a lot.
