Film Review: The Book (Finally) Closes on ‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’
Submitted by JonHC on February 1, 2017 - 5:51amCHICAGO – Guilty pleasures are the order of the day, especially when we are facing daily signs of a real, impending apocalypse. End of the world by zombies remains one of the most popular cataclysmic cinematic events and “Resident Evil” is proof. “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” proves that what should be dead can come back to life, but the real question is if it actually should.

Blu-Ray Review: Boring ‘Resident Evil: Afterlife’ Falls Flat in 2D
Submitted by BrianTT on January 10, 2011 - 9:31pmCHICAGO – Despite the exhaustion most of us have with the 3D trend by now, if there’s any franchise that should have benefited from the 3D rollercoaster, it would be the one based on “Resident Evil.” Zombies and Milla in 3D?!? Sign me up. And I wasn’t alone as the film made a stunning $300 million worldwide (more than double any other film in the franchise). Sadly, the traditional Blu-ray proves that 3D was the main reason for not just the film’s success but its very existence. It doesn’t work without it.
Blu-Ray Review: ‘Heroes: Season 4’ Concludes Botched Sci-Fi Series
Submitted by mattmovieman on August 19, 2010 - 9:24amCHICAGO – Here’s one of the saddest casualties of the recent writer’s strike. Tim Kring’s sci-fi series, “Heroes,” came on like gangbusters when it debuted in 2006. It intriguingly fused the formulas of “X-Men” and “Unbreakable,” as it followed a colorful assortment of earthlings who discover that they have powers unsettlingly akin to those seen comic books.
Blu-Ray Review: Beloved Kevin Smith Films Released in High Definition
Submitted by BrianTT on November 23, 2009 - 6:38pmCHICAGO – Very few filmmakers provoke the same kind of passionate adoration as the sometimes-great Kevin Smith, a man who has such a following that he can sell out large theaters filled with people who merely want to ask him questions for hours. Smith is a charismatic, interesting, clever filmmaker and his best work reflect his gregarious personality. Three of his best are captured in “The Kevin Smith Collection,” including two films with all-new Blu-Ray material.
Blu-Ray Review: Season Three of ‘Heroes’ Designed to Please Fans
Submitted by BrianTT on September 14, 2009 - 4:19pmCHICAGO – I’m one of many fans burned by the fizzling out of “Heroes,” a show that started incredibly strong and went from “must-see” to “meh” in just a few seasons. Despite the show’s overall dip in quality, the Blu-Ray releases have been heralded as leaders in the format, filled with special features designed to please hardcore fans.
Blu-Ray Review: Predictable Thriller ‘Obsessed’ Should Be Better
Submitted by BrianTT on August 11, 2009 - 2:23pmCHICAGO – Steve Shill’s “Obsessed,” now on Blu-Ray and DVD, nearly works as a guilty pleasure thriller with some talented stars, but it’s so shockingly predictable and by-the-numbers that what starts promising quickly gets generic and dull. By the time the film gets to its explosive climax, most viewers will be too bored to care and a sub-par Blu-Ray release doesn’t help the overall package.
