Film Review: ‘Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters’ is Driven by Myth
Submitted by PatrickMcD on August 7, 2013 - 9:11amCHICAGO – Although on the surface, the Percy Jackson stories may seem like Harry Potter rip-offs, the use of a mythology theme and a slyer sense of humor does give them some distinction and life. It also provides several moments of unintentional laughs in “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.”
Blu-Ray Review: ‘Lottery Ticket’ a Losing Wager For Everyone
Submitted by BrianTT on November 23, 2010 - 6:19pmCHICAGO – The comedy “Lottery Ticket,” recently released on Blu-ray and DVD, is so forgettable that it seems almost mean to pile on top of the negative reviews that greeted it in theaters. It’s not a horrible film, mostly because of the charms of its three leads, but there’s just not much nice to say about it either. It’s bearable and mildly-diverting, but with so many other great released on the market this month, don’t you want more than that faint praise?
DVD Review: Fascinating Cast Can’t Save ‘Operation: Endgame’
Submitted by BrianTT on July 29, 2010 - 1:37pmCHICAGO – As someone who has often gone home with a straight-to-DVD action movie that I hadn’t heard of before entering the video store, I know how easy it is to get drawn into something that looks a little bit left-of-center. “Operation: Endgame” is undeniably unusual but that doesn’t mean it’s any good.
Blu-Ray Review: Silly ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief’
Submitted by BrianTT on July 7, 2010 - 5:05pmCHICAGO – The most notable thing about “Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief,” now available on Blu-ray and DVD, is that it probably still holds position as the most horribly-titled film of the year. As for the actual movie, it follows in the footsteps of years of films trying to become the next “Harry Potter” franchise and, comparably, makes out much better than disasters like “Eragon” or “The Seeker: The Dark is Rising,” but that’s faint praise indeed.

Submitted by PatrickMcD on February 12, 2010 - 10:06amCHICAGO – Oh, those nutty kids today. At one moment they’re regular high schoolers, doing all those post millennium teen rituals, then suddenly they’re demigods in “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.”

The young cast brims with enthusiasm for the new movie.
