Blu-Ray Review: Natalie Portman, Ashton Kutcher in Decent ‘No Strings Attached’
Submitted by BrianTT on May 10, 2011 - 12:40pmCHICAGO – I have become nearly exhausted by writing reviews about the modern decline of the romantic comedy, the genre most in need of a complete overhaul. Most of them nowadays are horrendous. So, no one is more surprised than this critic to say that “No Strings Attached” with Ashton Kutcher & Natalie Portman, now available on Blu-ray and DVD, isn’t bad. It’s no genre classic, but it’s an enjoyable comedy on a Saturday night.
Blu-Ray Review: ‘Saw: The Final Chapter’ Hopefully Ends Lackluster Series
Submitted by BrianTT on January 31, 2011 - 8:40amCHICAGO – I’m old enough to remember how the “Friday the 13th” series made a promise of “The Final Chapter” after the fourth film only to return with “Friday the 13th: A New Beginning.” Let’s hope that “Saw: The Final Chapter” (also known as “Saw 7” and “Saw 3D”) does not follow the same pattern because this lackluster series truly needs to end now. At least give it a few years for some filmmaker to find what worked about it in the first place (for the record, I think the original “Saw” is a near-great horror flick…but the franchise went 1-for-7 overall) because this final film does not demand a follow-up. Please.
Film Review: Ashton Kutcher, Natalie Portman With ‘No Strings Attached’
Submitted by PatrickMcD on January 21, 2011 - 1:15pmCHICAGO – When a handsome studmuffin meets a fetching, fabulously hot doctor, what’s the outcome? That’s right, sex without a relationship, AKA Friends with Benefits. And a movie featuring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman called “No Strings Attached.”

Blu-Ray Review: Disney’s ‘A Christmas Carol’ With Jim Carrey Annoys Instead of Captivates
Submitted by BrianTT on November 18, 2010 - 10:04amCHICAGO – Disney’s “A Christmas Carol” is a loud, annoying mess, a film that reimagines the Charles Dickens’ classic in ways that the author never intended, turning a morality lesson into an effects-heavy action extravaganza. Having said that, the Blu-ray release is typically-strong for one of the best companies in the world when it comes to family product. Disney can turn even a bad film into a solid Blu-ray.
TV Review: USA’s Reliable, Entertaining ‘Psych’ Returns For Mid-Season Premiere
Submitted by BrianTT on November 10, 2010 - 9:37amCHICAGO – “Psych” returns tonight, November 10th, 2010 for the mid-season premiere of one of basic cable’s most likable programs. The show has legions of fans but has never quite broken out like pop culture smashes “Monk,” “The Closer,” or “Mad Men.” It’s a reliably-enjoyable mystery-comedy that thrives on the comic timing and perfect chemistry of its talented leads.

TV Review: Final Season of ‘Monk’ Opens With Good Episode; ‘Psych’ Also Returns
Submitted by BrianTT on August 7, 2009 - 2:08pmCHICAGO – For seven years, USA Network’s “Monk” has consistently delivered quality entertainment. It’s never been a show that set out to break the rules or even do anything too interesting within them, but it has rarely faltered at all in its ability to entertain, something that can be said about very few series that have been on this long.
